Art of the Shake

My working life started in an ice cream shop. Funny enough, through some of the strangest turns and most challenging chapters of my career, ice cream has always been the thing that brings me back to center. I’ve made it from scratch, rebuilt the machines that make it, infused it with booze, folded in pie, cookies, cereal, and just about everything else you can imagine. Somewhere along the way, a surprising amount of my hospitality career happened because of milkshakes. Didn’t plan that. It’s just did something that I truly enjoy doing, and I fond places that let me explore. To be considered a bit of an ice cream man, I wear that badge proudly. From popups, to creating home-made novelties, to almost opening my own creamery, ice cream will always give me comfort. To the regulars that kept me honest, every Sunday, for years, being able to share those ideas and creations, for live feedback, to be a part of each others lives, it was just the most fun I could have ever hoped for.

For me, ice cream has always been more than dessert. It’s creativity without pretension. It makes people smile before they even take the first bite. No matter where my career has taken me from design studios to cocktail bars to restaurant operations, I’ve always found myself coming back to it. And I have a feeling I always will.
