Chestnut Hill College Griffins

Mythology by the Greeks. Inspiration by Slayer.

Coming off the La Salle Explorers piece, I was all too excited to grab the reigns of a brand, spanking new athletic program at my favorite college in Philly. The once all-girl school academy wanted to enter the scene with avengence. The school’s mascot of a griffin needed to evoke honor, and strength, while casting fear into those wishing to attack whomever it is charged to protect. Ok, ok, it was a chance to take a mythological creature and add a little bit rockstar to a Christian Academy. Granted, I may have gone a little overboard. The original mark had 4 colors, something quite expensive for a small college to produce. Unfortunately, I had left the agency I was with just as this project was finishing up, and I never really had a chance to resolve a lot of the forms you see here. The “Griffins” is terrible and the Chestnut Hill logotype is close but needs a bit more resolution, but something wonderful happened. No one seemed to care, and within months, the little school on the hill reproduced every mark in the system on every sport they had and then some. It appears in more uniforms as is, moreso than any Div I school I had worked on. The Griffin stands proud on the hill, and for that I am honored.
